David & Louise in South Africa, July 2011David and Louise are Two Wheel Exploring and this is their blog dedicated to ramblings about motorcycle touring. David and Louise are two, thirty somethings who love exploring new countries on two wheels. They feel it’s the best way to travel – it exposes you to the bare reality of wherever you are and it draws on all your senses. It is also the best way to meet new people; on motorcycles you cannot hide behind a windscreen. Motorbikes always seem to attract the curiosity of locals who always want to chat.

David and Louise’s first big adventure was riding 7,000km from London to The Gambia in October/November 2012.

They pointed their wheels towards Portsmouth on 17 October 2012 and took 5 weeks to make their way to Banjul. The journey enjoyed a bit of Spain, meanders through beautiful Morocco, amazing open roads in Western Sahara and arid Mauritania. After reaching tropical Senegal David and Louise made their way to the thin strip of The Gambia; their final destination.

Their journey on two BMW F650 can be read through the blog pages on this site that they updated along the way.

David and Louise love sharing their experiences, enjoy meeting other travellers and are available to speak at events.

  1. Louise, your mother tells me if I leave a message here you will find it; the wonders of modern technology!! Altho’ what would you know about modern technology? that BM is a 650 single isn’t it!!!
I hadn’t realised you are into bikes but then I always thought you are fairly bright so shouldn’t be surprised. Simon preferred his without brakes and a mere 500cc altho it could hit 60 in about 3 seconds. I only rode the thing once and couldn’t get it off tickover without nearly looping it. He insisted it was far easier to ride when flat on the stop and has the scars to prove it.
Best of luck on your trip, sounds fantastic. You watch out for the wild life and I’ll keep an eye on reports of your progress

    • Hi Terry
Good to hear from you and thanks for looking at the blog.
Exactly a week today we leave – very exciting but I don’t think it will feel real until we reach Morocco.
We will be adding updates when we find WiFi but best to click the ‘follow’ button bottom right to receive emails when we do add a new post.

  2. When I first saw the name of your blog in my WP Reader I thought:
“What’s this, another (non-motorized) touring blog?”

I was pleasantly surprised to see you guys are riding motorcycles! (Not that I’m against non-motorized touring – It’s just that I’ve been scanning “crazyguyonabike” journals for the past couple months in preparations for my own non-motorized tour…) ; )

Kudos to your recent travels through the Sahara – looks like sand, dirt… then more sand!
I’m excited for some pics of Senegal and Gambia – hopefully you’ll get to enjoy sand of a more coastal nature!
